Jio And MediaTek Announce Gaming Masters 2.0 BGMI Esports Tournament

Indian telecom giant Jio along with chipmaker  MediaTek recently announced the Gaming Masters 2.0 —an esports tournament. The event will be a Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) tournament and features a massive prize pool of ₹12.5 Lakh.

The Gaming Masters 2.0 is the flagship event featuring Free Fire. The first edition had received over 14,000 team registrations. After the massive success of season 1, the organisers have decided to host a second edition of the highly-anticipated esports event. The second edition will feature the battle royale game, BGMI.

The Gaming Masters 2.0 will kick-start on November 23rd 2021, and continue until January 10th 2022. All Jio users, along with non-Jio users, can participate in this tournament through the JioGames. The tournament will take place in four phases or qualifiers. The qualifiers will feature three rounds each:

  • In Round 1, 20 teams in each match will play a set of two maps. The scores on both maps will be tallied and the winning teams will qualify for Round 2.
  • In Round 2, 16 teams in each match will again play a set of two maps. The scores of the two maps will be tallied and the best five teams in each lobby will proceed to Round 3.
  • In Round 3, 20 teams will play a set of five maps. After the scores from all five maps are tallied, the top five teams will progress to the ‘Road to Finale.’

Following the same pattern, each of the four qualifiers will select the five best teams who will then progress to the ‘Road to Finale’, which is scheduled to take place on December 21st 2021. The registrations for this tournament are underway and will end on November 21st,  2021. The event does not have any entry fee, and players can register by visiting the JioGames’ website.
