Jean Thorel Turned Oppenheimer Against Stephen Chidwick At Triton Main Event

The recently concluded Main Event of the Triton Poker Series London 2023 witnessed some intense action at the Great Room of the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, London. The Main Event was taken down by Timothy Adams, who pocketed a handsome $4,185,000 for his victory.

But apart from Adams, what caught everyone’s attention was the star-studded final table. The final table was no less than a battlefield, with the players putting their best foot forward, hand by hand.

One such hand was played at the final table, which left everyone stunned, and we’re sure this hand will go down in the history of the Triton Poker Series. How often do you see some of the best starting hands in poker up against each other in a single round of poker?

It was Juan Pardo, Jean Noel Thorel, Stephen Chidwick and Daniel Cates in contention, all having the best cards one could imagine.

Pardo sat with pocket kings, Thorel had pocket aces, while Chidwick and Cates sat with Big Slick and Fishhooks, respectively. Pardo raised to 400,000 from the UTG, which was followed by a 3-bet from Thorel to 1,000,000. Chidwik tanked for a while before 4-betting to 2,300,000 from the small blind. Cates smartly folded his Fishhooks.

Pardo was contemplating his move, and Thorel uttered all-in with his Pocket Rockets out of turn. In a painful situation like this, the Spanish player folded his Cowboys reluctantly preflop, which made French player’s all-in valid. Thorel jammed his remaining 7,675,000. The board brought 4c 9s 6c 5d, leading to Thorel doubling up and Chidwik losing a considerable stack from his kitty.

Well, now that’s what an entertaining and nail-biting poker hand looks like. Thorel then went on to lock horns with Timothy Adams in the heads-up session to eventually succumb against the Canadian and finish second at the Triton Poker Series London 2023.
