Isaac Haxton And Dan Smith Win U.S. Poker Open Titles


Isaac Haxton and Dan Smith became the winners of the two $25,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em events as part of the 2023 U.S. Poker Open. Haxton won Event #8: $25,000 NL Hold’em for $423,000, and Smith won Event #9: $25,000 NL Hold’em for $399,500. In the event that Haxton won, Smith finished third for $189,000.

Haxton’s victory in Event #8 pushed him to more than $5,000,000 in live tournament winnings in 2023, according to TheHendonMob.com, and he became the first player to win that much this year. Haxton also became the 15th player in poker history with $35,000,000 in live tournament winnings.

What Is the U.S. Poker Open?

The U.S. Poker Open is one of the PGT majors. The 2023 edition is a 10-event series from the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas, with live streaming of every final table. Buy-ins range from $10,000 to $50,000. The player to accumulate the most PGT points over the course of the 10-event series will be crowned the 2023 U.S. Poker Open champion and win the series’ $50,000 championship bonus.

The first-ever U.S. Poker Open was in 2018. This year’s U.S. Poker Open is the fifth edition of the series overall and the third since the PGT began in 2021. Previous U.S. Poker Open champions are Stephen Chidwick (2018), David Peters (2019, 2021), and Sean Winter (2022).

U.S. Poker Open Finale 

On Tuesday, April 4, starting at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT), the final table of Event #10: $50,000 NL Hold’em will air live on PokerGO. There is $1,850,000 up for grabs at the final table, including the $666,000 top prize. Justin Bonomo leads the final six players that includes Martin Zamani, Jeremy Ausmus, Nick Petrangelo, Chris Brewer, and Dan Smith.

Zamani, Ausmus, Brewer, and Smith all have a shot at the overall U.S. Poker Open title and a $50,000 championship bonus. Ren Lin currently leads the overall series leaderboard and has to do a lot of fading in order to maintain the top spot.
