The world of poker has lost the ‘Godfather of Poker,’ Doyle Brunson. Fondly known as ‘Texas Dolly’ left for his heavenly abode earlier today at the age of 89.
The news was shared by his agent Brian Balsbaugh on Twitter. “Passing this on: “It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our father, Doyle Brunson. He was a beloved Christian man, husband, father and grandfather. We’ll have more to say over the coming days as we honour his legacy. Please keep Doyle and our family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.” Sincerely, the Brunson Family,” he wrote.

Brunson’s son Todd Brunson also confirmed the news by sharing a tweet that read, “I don’t really care about myself but my Mother literally doesn’t even know yet. I’m still in the hospital with him. Thank you all for your concern but I need to ask for everyone to respect my family’s privacy at this point. Thank you. I’ll update everyone when possible.”

He leaves behind a legacy of poker that will always be remembered. He is the second-highest World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner in the world, with 10 WSOP bracelets to his name, followed by Phil Hellmuth, who has 16 bracelets to flaunt. The Godfather of poker rose to fame after winning the rose to poker fame in the late 1970s. He won the WSOP Main Event twice consecutively in 1976 and 1977. Ever since he has been regular the high-stakes poker scene. He has also appeared on some of the televised poker games over the past one year, which included the 2022 WSOP Main Event.
Last year in June, Brunson was also signed as the ambassador of the World Poker Tour. As of early 2023, Brunson’s net worth stood at $75 Million. Know more about his net worth here.
