Free Fire Reaches 1 Billion Downloads On Google PlayStore

Garena’s Free Fire became the world’s first battle royale game to cross one billion downloads on Google PlayStore. The game has witnessed some impressive numbers over the past one year, and the one billion mark adds to their celebration.

To celebrate the milestone, the developer will be hosting an in-game event this August. The event will be a dual celebration to mark the one billion downloads as well as Free Fire’s fourth anniversary.

Free Fire’s record-breaking spree started in 2020, when it started breaking it’s own records. The game recorded 60 million daily users in March, which rose to 80 million daily users in May and then 100 million daily users in August.

According to App Annie, Garena’s Free Fire was the world’s most downloaded game for two consecutive years. It was also the third most viewed game on YouTube last year.

The COVID-19 pandemic gave a big boost to the gaming industry, and Garena made every possible effort to keep the game exciting and attract new users. The developers partnered with games like Street Fighter V, Attack on Titan, McLaren Racing, One-Punch Man. Additionally, they also collaborated with Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo to endorse the game.

These collaborations helped the game connect and engage with countries all over the world and develop a global presence. This majorly led to the game becoming more and more popular and consequently reaching one billion downloads.

Apart from the partnerships, the developer made huge investments and hosted several major tournaments of the game both, online and offline. The tournaments are organised from a local level to global level. Most recently, the developers hosted the Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore towards the end of May. According to an Esports Charts report, the event set the record receiving 5.4 million peak viewers from across the globe.

The game has also been nominated in the ‘Esports Mobile Game of The Year’ category at the 2021 Esports Awards. The other games nominated in this category include PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty, Clash Royale and League of Legends: Wild Rift among others.
