Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner admits losses in poker

Quite recently, the former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner made a shocking revelation that caught the internet attention. The sports star who is fond of mind-sport, poker, said in a Danish TV reality show, Bendtner and Philine, hosting alongside his girlfriend Philine Roepstorff.

The 32-year-old, Bendtner revealed that he has lost nearly $7 million in poker, but he also agrees that the experience taught him some valuable lessons in life. The former Gunners star stepped into the world of poker at the age of 19. Soon, he began to participate in various high-end sessions during his time in London when he was playing for Arsenal. Bendtner says, “I have lost lots of money – a totally unrealistic amount.”

Having played lots of poker in his life, he says it is both “fun and trouble”. He isn’t addicted to the game though, Bendtner has always been able to control it. And then he confessed, “One night in London things got out of control, and they could have ended up really wrong.” He further said, “It ended up not so badly. It was something I could have lived with.” Losing $7 million was the turning point in his life and from that day he has been playing with much smaller amounts and he still enjoys playing poker. “I’m due to host a poker night with a new group of friends. We just put in 100 crowns – £12 – each.”

Bendtner played for Arsenal between 2005 and 2014, he represented Denmark on more than 80 occasions. After his release from the FC Copenhagen in late 2019, Bendtner has not played soccer since then. During his time at Arsenal, he was loaned out to multiple clubs like Sunderland and Junventus. Bendtner’s net worth is close to $9 million in 2018, despite his wealth, he has had a range of business including clothing line with Louis Vuitton.
