Fabian Gumz leads Malta Poker Festival Grand Event

Now we know you may be used to hearing the term ‘Main Event’ very often in live poker series, but here’s a series that went ahead and named their highlight tournament as the ‘Grand Event’. At the Malta Poker Festival, hundreds of players registered to compete in the €550 Grand Event, which began a few days back.

In all, a massive field of 1,366 entries registered to the tournament across three starting flights and this led to the guarantee being surpassed easily. The field boiled down on Day 2, coming down to the final 24. Then, just 8 players survived as we’ve reached the end of Day 3 as well.

Leading the Final Table at the moment is Germany’s Fabian Gumz and this player is guaranteed a minimum cash prize of €14,710, which is the current pay-out for 8th place. However, it looks like he’ll be aiming much higher at the moment, way above everyone else with a chip stack of 9,845,000.

Second to him is Italy’s Emanuele Onnis who has a stack of 6,330,000 chips and these guys are the current top favourite to go on and pocket the €150k top prize. A lot of poker has been taking place in Malta at the moment and several prizes being given out, with the MPNPT Battle of Malta recently concluding here as well.
