With several poker rooms opening doors for visitors and players, PokerStars announced that the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) as well as European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona has been postponed until 2021. Additionally, other events like Road to PSPC Cannes in France, the Road to PSPC Madrid in Spain and the Manilla Super Series 14 have all been taken off the PokerStars schedule.
The press release stated, “It is with great regret that PokerStars has postponed to 2021 the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) 2020 and EPT Barcelona. The events were due to be held at Casino Barcelona, Spain in August this year. The PSPC will still take place at Casino Barcelona, although new dates for 2021 have yet to be confirmed.”
The first-ever PSPC was held in January 2019 when the high roller event attracted a massive field of 1,039 runners to become the largest field in an event with a buy-in of $25K or more. Players were looking forward to PSPC in August 2020 at Casino Barcelona. “We realize that this news will come as a disappointment to many, but we know you will understand and appreciate why this is necessary. Our priority is the safety and good health of all our players and staff, as well as the communities that host such large events,” said Managing Director at The Stars Group Séverin Rasset in the release. “While we cannot provide exact dates at this time, we do know that the PSPC will be back bigger and better in 2021 at Casino Barcelona. Until then, we will focus on creating a life changing and memorable PokerStars experience for when we are safe and together again.”
Players would be able to win packages or Platinum Passes to the tournament which would include the €22,500 buy-in along with travel expenses as well as a 6-night stay in Barcelona. The platform has given away more than 170 passes so far and 80 more passes remain. “In the coming months, we’ll bring our players even more ways to win as we make this event a true celebration that brings the PokerStars live events community back together again. It will be worth the wait.”
“We are working tirelessly and will keep you posted as soon as we have more details to share on this, or the status of other live events currently scheduled.” The first-ever PSPC was a part of the 2019 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure festival which awarded 320 platinum passes and Ramon Colillas was crowned the eventual champion for $5 million!
