ESL Launches Esports Monopoly Board Game

International esports tournament organiser, ESL (formerly known as Electronic Sports League) has announced the launch of an esports version of the popular board game Monopoly. It is a modern twist to the traditional and famous board game.

Unlike the regular monopoly game, esports monopoly replaces the usual objects like shoe and thimble with esports related objects like gaming controllers, keyboard, headphones, ESL logo, trophy, and chicken (representation of the popular winning phrase ‘Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner’ used in PUBG).

Additionally, esports monopoly will allow players to buy mega tournaments, instead of property. Players can buy esports events like Dreamhack or ESL Katowice. They can also invest in major leagues as well as sell tickets and merchandise of these events.

However, one thing that remains common is that a player can end up in jail. The board game is printed on both sides in English and German. Describing the double-side printed board, ESL says, “A double sided board that can be played on even if someone flips it in rage.”

The overall rules of the esports version are similar to that of the traditional monopoly. A player must earn as much money as possible by purchasing different assets to win the game.

Players aged eight years and above are most suited for this game. The game can be played by minimum two and maximum six players at a time. As per the website, the game can be played for one or two hours or until the players give up.

“Welcome to the world of esports – where everybody can be somebody. From the local internet cafe to the biggest venues in the world, bringing esports to the fans requires expert planning and a winning strategy. How will you bring in more fans and grow esports viewership? Will you invest in gaming festivals, sell merchandise, build online esports leagues, or sell tickets for the largest arenas all around the world?” stated the website. The esports monopoly is available on the ESL store section of its website for a price of ₹4,500 ($60.99).
