The ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine has caused the upcoming European Poker Tour (EPT) Sochi to be postponed. PokerStars also announced that other tournaments which were scheduled to take place in Russia have been paused owing to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
The EPT Sochi hosted by PokerStars was scheduled to take place between 18th to 27th March 2022 at Casino Sochi. The series featured a $2,000 Main Event, an EPT national tournament, a highroller event, and a Sochi Cup.
As per latest news reports, the series will be hosted between 1st to 10th October 2022, unless any further issues arise in the country. Players who have already planned and bought into the upcoming series events can contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further assistance.
The Russian military attacked the Ukrainian cities on 24th February 2022 on orders from Russian President Vladimir Putin who described the invasion as a ‘special military operation’ designed to ‘demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. Other countries including the US and UK, consider these attacks as a declaration of war.
It is unsafe to host a poker tournament or series in the given conditions and thus PokerStars decided to halt these events. Other events such as PokerStars’ EPT Prague starting on 5th March, Belgique Poker Masters in Bratislava could also be affected due to the traveling hazards caused by the ongoing attacks.
Poker events are a distant thought during such trying times. It seems like Europe’s live tournament scene will enter another period of uncertainty following a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic.
