Unesportsity, a Dubai company, plans to start classes that teach gaming to children as young as three and roll out a comprehensive curriculum. Dr Adil Alzarooni, the founder of CapiZona Ventures, who runs Unesportsity, has revealed the reason for the decision.
“We want people to realise that gaming can introduce economic output and benefit the gamers by upskilling. We want to introduce gaming in a beneficial and positive way across schools and universities, ultimately growing it into a curriculum that will use gaming for skilling,” he said.
According to reports, he also plans to introduce gaming across schools and universities for a positive impact and incorporate it into a skills-instilling curriculum. It has been revealed that such a pilot project will be launched at the Citizens’ School in Dubai, where the doctor is the chairman. It is unclear whether the program will see a pilot project in any other school or educational institution in the near future.
Gaming has always been a touchy subject for parents and even young individuals. The games themselves have pivoted from single-person gaming, which was a player experiencing a storyline while playing through, to competitive gaming, which is frowned upon. However, it cannot be denied that there are thousands of games that cater to diverse age groups and have the ability to teach skills and strategy to anyone who decides to spend time with them.

Dubai, meanwhile, is gearing up for one of its first casinos, just years after the Dubai Government gave Wynn Gaming a gambling licence. The company’s decision to teach gaming to children and make it into the curriculum comes in the background of Dubai following Sharia Law.
If Unesportsity does achieve what it plans, it could work towards creating a scenario where parents and people, in general, are more open to others having a career in gaming or might even think of pursuing one themselves. More and more countries are opening up to gaming professionals and gaming as a profession, and gaming being taught in schools anywhere would be a booster shot towards the normalization of gaming on a global level. Even in India, gaming is poised to grow by leaps and bounds, with Karnataka working in the gaming sphere.

Sharia Law prohibits gambling, and therefore, it would be illegal in the desert city. As of now, it remains to be seen how Dubai and the world will react to this endeavour.
