Casinos in Goa To Remain Shut As State Government Imposes Four Day Lockdown Starting Today

The government of Goa has imposed a four-day lockdown in the state starting from today. The announcement was made by Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa. The lockdown will begin at 7 PM today and end at 6 AM on 3 May.

Earlier, the state government had announced a night curfew from 10 PM to 6 AM from 21–30 April, wherein casinos were allowed to operate with only 50% occupancy. As per the new guidelines, the casinos will remain shut till 3 May. On Tuesday, Goa reported 2,110 COVID-19 positive cases and 31 people died. This tallies to 81,908 total cases and the death toll stood at 1,086 in the state up till now.

With respect to the weekend lockdown, Sawant has asked the locals to stay calm and not panic. “People should not panic as all grocery stores and essential services will be allowed to operate. I also urge migrant labourers to not leave the state. Casinos and bars have been ordered to remain shut during the four-day lockdown.”

Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Sawant said that the treatment of COVID-19 patients at private hospitals will be covered by the state government under the ‘Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana’ (DDSSY.) Upto 70 – 80% expenditure of a COVID-19 patient will be covered under the scheme.

Detailed notification of the same will be issued soon. As per the latest lockdown norms, restaurants will only be allowed to operate for delivery purposes. Dine-in will not be permitted. Tourists in the state will not be allowed to step out and are expected to stay at their residence during the lockdown period.
