Casinos and Chocolates: An Endless Affair

When asked to name two words beginning from the alphabet C, we immediately squeaked ‘Casinos and Chocolates.’ But why did we mention this combo today? According to Days of the Year, it is ‘Chocolate covered anything day’ today.

The Japanese and the Chinese are well known for the superstitions that they follow. Here’s one of those superstitious beliefs that the Japanese follow. Around five decades ago, they started the practice of giving chocolates to people each person values in their life. More often, this practice turned into a custom that men started following. Men reciprocated the gesture of giving chocolates in the month of March. The Cerulean Tower Tokyo Hotel in Shibuya has been selling these chocolates inspired by casino games for Valentine’s Day since 2013.

There was also a hamper designed around the concept of ‘Chocolate men would be delighted to receive’ under the label of ‘CASINO 2019 Unmei no Itazura.’ What does the translation refer to? Aah! Let’s put that aside and just enjoy the concept of chocolate and goodness.

This hamper had chocolates molded as dices, playing cards, and chips. They are so much in demand that they tend to sell out by the month of January every year. Just like the Cerulean Tower Tokyo Hotel in Japan, the popular Bellagio in Las Vegas is also known for the world class chocolate fountain it houses. The fountain is a visual and aromatic treat for thousands who visit Bellagio on their Las Vegas trip. It emerges from the Jean-Philippe Patisserie on the promenade of the Spa Tower of Bellagio.

This fountain is a floor to a ceiling sculpture that circulates more than 2,100 pounds of melted milk, dark and white chocolate everyday. It is designed to operate continuously for over a year without having to change or replace the chocolate.
