Brazil’s Luiz Torres On His Natural8 Partnership & Twitch Streams

When Natural8’s Luiz Torres hit the online felts he didn’t just stop at playing online poker; he went a step further and started live-streaming his games. This young Brazilian has been working on his poker game since 2007 and is now sharing his experience with others on Twitch. Torres is a trailblazer when it comes to live-streaming poker games apart from being the first Brazilian poker player to do so.

Torres—known mainly by his monikers like ‘Luizftorres’ and ‘Poker Raiz,’ was awarded the title of Best Male Streamer in the 2020 Mundo Poker Awards. In the beginning of his poker career, Torres had to face a lot of the social stigmas and misconceptions that came with the mind sport. Nevertheless, he pushed through and is now one of the most loved online pros.

For the July 2021 edition of Gutshot’s e-magazine, we had the opportunity to interview Torres about his journey, Twitch streams, and his association with Natural8. Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

You started playing poker in 2007, before which you were working as a teacher. How has your life changed after dedicating yourself to the game?

At the beginning of my career, I worked as a teacher but dedicated my spare time to poker. When I started winning regularly, I made the decision to fully dedicate myself to the game. The quality of my life has improved significantly since the change.

In 2013, you moved to Natural8 to continue your career. Do share more about your experience on the platform and how it has helped you grow.

I went from being a sit-n-go professional to playing tournaments back in 2013. As I was getting better in tournaments, I opened a Twitch account and became a Natural8 partner. The platform is a great place for players in Asia and Brazil. Since my partnership with Natural8, I have become a better streamer and have also seen a growth in my Twitch audience.

Being a streamer is not easy. What is the one piece of advice you always give those who want to follow in your footsteps?

Have a quality layout and equipment. You also have to be authentic and confident while interacting with your audience. Don’t be shaken by negative comments and try to stream regularly. You don’t want people to forget about you!
