Asian Poker Tour ready for second 2019 stop at Vietnam

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) is one of the biggest names in live poker in Asia and they host a handful of series each year across different venues in the continent. This year too, they’ve had a few series in Japan, Taiwan, and also one in Vietnam, which kicked started the calendar for 2019.

Halfway through the year and the poker boom being witnessed in Vietnam in recent months has brought APT back to this venue for its second stop of 2019. The first one was a successful one for the company as well as for the Indian contingent in attendance there, with Abhinav Iyer winning the Main Event for a career-best live score in January.

Now, we have another APT series in Vietnam, at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh, and the festivities have been scheduled between 3-14 July 2019. Usually, we’d be looking at a massive Indian contingent in Vietnam but this time, all of our top pros are in Las Vegas for the 50th anniversary of the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

Just a handful of Indian players will be in attendance at this edition of APT Vietnam, choosing a location closer to home and might we say, a less expensive option too. Some of the players who have confirmed their participation in the series include Rubin LabrooVinay RajpalGaurav SoodLakshpal Singh, and Ashish Munot.

All of these guys have been among the big online scores in recent months and they’re set to take their game to the next level in Ho Chi Minh. Munot began his year by winning the IOPC Main Event on Spartan Poker, adding INR 37L to his poker bankroll and becoming India’s biggest online poker winner. Now, he’s ready to get his first live cash overseas, after having accumulated INR 13+ Lakh in tournament cashes in India.

Another person on his debut poker trip overseas is Lakshpal Singh who has also been honing his skills as a poker player in recent months. Gutshot reached out to him before APT Vietnam began and he said, “I’m expecting the fields to be soft with most regs in Vegas. It’s my first international series, so I’m looking forward to playing my best and bringing home a trophy.”

We also spoke to Gaurav Sood who has been on a title-winning spree since the last 3-4 months, having won BSS SuperStack on PokerBaazi most recently. He said, “APT Vietnam is my first international series. It has a lot of events plus the Main Event and Championship Event are round about 3 Cr and 2 Cr GTD respectively. Really looking forward to it. More for the whole experience than the expectation of instant success in live tournaments because it’s a different ball game altogether.”

The series begins tomorrow and the Main Event VND 8 Billion GTD begins on 4th July followed by Championships Event VND 6 Billion GTD on 10th July till the final day of the series. We wish our Indian players the best of luck for the series and you can catch all updates on the same on GutshotMagazine.com.
