Arsh Grover takes down Spartan’s new ‘Half Price’ tournament

It’s new but it’s pretty simple. The name says it all. Half Price INR 6 Lakh GTD is one of the latest tournament offerings designed by Spartan Poker, one that is played every Saturday night by those who prefer the ‘sit home and grind’ kind of routine rather than the go out and party routine.

The tournament has a buy-in of INR 4,400 and as the name suggests, all re-buys are available at 50% of the original price – INR 2,200. The weekend feature gathered just enough of entries to reach the required guarantee last night and by the end of it all, it was Arsh Grover aka ‘BigggTymeR’ who emerged victorious.

Grover is a Spartan Poker regular and has also won a few titles in the past, one of the most recent ones being the Mega Freeze title in this month’s Spartan Super Series (SSS). Prior to that, he made a splash on 9stacks too, winning back-to-back Sunday Stacks titles and making big bankroll additions in both.

Here on Spartan last night, he was paid out INR 1,74,900 for this victory, after he beat a field full of pros and ‘Jai Bajarangbali’ in heads-up. It was an intense session of poker which ended with Jai Bajarangbali having to settle for the runner-up prize of INR 1,26,000.

Grover built himself a chip lead of nearly 4:1 and delivered the final blow to his opponent in a PFAI situation. He shoved with Ah 9h and received a call from Jai Bajarangbali who held Qd Th. With the flop opening 8s Tc 3s, Jai Bajarangbali hit a pair of Tens and was a happy man until the As on the turn, while the 2s on the river was inconsequential, as Grover won with a pair of Aces.
