Andre ‘PTFisherman23’ Marques took down the WCOOP Main Event


The 2020 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) series came to a close last week with all three Main Event winners crowned and $100 million awarded to players. A total of $99,780,230 in prize money was paid out during the series. Andre ‘PTFisherman23’ Marques took down the WCOOP Main Event with the top payout of $1,147,271. The $5,200 buy-in 2020 WCOOP no-limit Hold’em main event. attracted a field of 1,977 entries as Marques emerged victorious to claim the title. 

On reaching the final table, Marque sat behind Teun ‘tinnoemulder’ Mulder who was in the chip lead. Marques overtook the lead early on by knocking out Cecilia ‘princes chu’ Cafaro in ninth place, with a five-high straight on the turn to send Cafaro to the rail with $99,997 for her run. Michael ‘munchenHB’ Telker was the next to be eliminated against pocket tens and got knocked out with  A-4 in seventh place.

Denys ‘SantaZzz’ Chufarin lost a huge preflop race to hit the rail in sixth place and was awarded $276,069 for his strong showing.  Lyubovetskiy failed to improve and was sent home with $387,284 for his fifth-place finish. Four-handed play continued for a while before the decisive hand arose. Ylitalo moved all-in from under the gun and eliminated Ylitalo in fourth place. The final three ensured a seven figure payday and an additional $100,000 from the prize pool to play for. Mulder finished third when his A3 was unable to overcome the AJ of Marques. He took home $1,101,528 per the deal.

Heads-up play began with Marques holding roughly a 2:1 lead on Roder. He was able to extend his advantage to more than 6:1 by the time the final hand was dealt. With a board of 9629, Marques checked the turn and Roder bet 3.5 million into a pot of 7.9 million with 65. Marques check-raised to 14 million holding 87 for an open-ended straight draw and Roder called. The 10 on the river completed Marques’ straight. He moved all-in and Roder went into the tank before calling for his tournament life. Marques’ straight secured him the pot and the title, while Roder earned $1,082,523 as the runner-up.
