Actress Shilpa Shetty’s Husband Raj Kundra Arrested In Porn Racket

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra who is also a recreational poker player was arrested last night. As per news reports, Kundra was arrested for his alleged involvement in making pornographic films and releasing them through various mobile applications. The British-Indian businessman was arrested by Mumbai police and is deemed to be the key conspirator in this case.

Kundra has been booked under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention), 292, and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays) of the Indian Penal Code besides other sections of the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. 

The Property Cell of the Mumbai Police busted a gang in February 2021 that was involved in making porn videos under the pretext of making short films for OTT platforms. During the probe, the Crime Branch arrested Umesh Kamat, who reportedly worked with Kundra in the capacity of Executive Assistant. Kundra’s name surfaced after Kamat’s arrest, however, Crime Branch was unable to arrest him then due to lack of evidence. So far, 10 accused have been arrested in this case including Raj Kundra and actress Gehana Vasisth.

Kamat was the managing director of VIAAN industries which has Kundra named as its chairman and non-executive director. Apart from Kamat and Kundra, the Crime Branch also arrested Tanvir Hashmi who has so far directed eight films and was using aspiring actresses to shoot pornographic videos. The news reports further add that videos shot by Hashmi were sent to a UK-based firm called Kernin Limited through Kamat. 

Hemant Nagrale, Commissioner of Mumbai Police said, “There was a case already registered with the Crime Branch, Mumbai in February 2021 in the context of pornography creation and publishing through apps. We now have sufficient evidence regarding this case and the investigation is in process.”

As per Crime Branch, after shooting the porn videos, the accused would send them to a foreign company using ‘WeTransfer,’ an internet-based computer file transfer service. These videos were then uploaded on various applications to evade Indian law.

The applications used to upload porn videos made use of foreign websites like HotShot, Nuefliks, escapenow.tv, and HotHit. The police seized equipment from a bungalow worth ₹5.68 Lakh which was used for shooting these pornographic videos. 

This is not the first time that Kundra has faced problems of this nature. Back in February, controversial model-actress Poonam Pandey filed a complaint in the Bombay High Court alleging that Kundra and his associates in a company called Armsprime Media, were illegally using content featuring her despite their contract being terminated eight months prior.
