A23 Poker Professor: How To Get Featured In The Next Poker Content Show?

Hello and welcome back to another class of the A23 Poker Professor. We’ve gone through a few lessons together in the last few sessions and last Tuesday, we began Semester II with the topic being about how not to throw chips away easily and understanding the ‘Chip and a Chair’ phrase in poker.

In today’s class, I have an exciting topic for you. Have you ever dreamt about starring in a poker content show? If yes, we’re going to help you understand what needs to be done to make this dream convert into a reality!

The poker world is abuzz with exciting content, like video series, podcasts, interviews, tournament live streaming, commentating on live poker action, and much more. While poker content is mainstream in western countries, India is slowly proving that they are no exception either. From live streams to YouTube tutorials, poker content is booming. But what does it take to become the next star picked to be a part of the upcoming poker content scene?

Master the game first

Before you dive into the world of poker content, be it interviewing or podcasting or participating in a reality series on poker, it’s crucial to master the game itself. A strong foundation in poker strategy is the bedrock of any successful poker content creator. Even if your job is to be on the sidelines of a poker content show, knowing the game is the least acceptable skill you should have. For that:

• Practice makes perfect: Before you start learning new and advanced strategies in the game, dedicate time to honing your existing poker skills. The more you play / read / learn, the better you will get.
• Learn from the pros: Watch professional poker players and analyze their strategies. Watch how they perform when doing poker content, and how they handle certain pressure situations.

Several interviews, webinars, poker networking events, and final table appearances later, Nikita Luther was spotted for a television series with Karan Johar called ‘The Traitors’.  If your goal is to be featured in a poker content series too, here are some tips:

1. Create high-quality content: Ensure your content stands out, whether that’s streams or commentary, or maybe just Instagram stories that excite the poker community.
2. Build a strong online presence: Like we said about stories above, never under-estimate the power of social media nowadays. Make posts that will interact with your audience, and a blue tick wouldn’t hurt either.
3. Industry networking: Connect with poker content creators, influencers, and organisers whenever possible.
4. Showcase your personality: Let your unique personality shine through in your content. If you play aggressively, stay true to that type when making content too.
5. Be patient: Reaching the summit by featuring in a poker series will take time and effort. So don’t give up anytime soon.

Like I give you guys every week on Tuesdays, here’s some more homework for you to work on. Remember, don’t take this lightly as practising our lessons is the only way to see progress. Assignment: Create a 5-minute video explaining a poker strategy you learned recently. Share it on your social media handles and ask for feedback from your followers. This exercise will help you practice content creation and engage with your audience. If the feedback is positive, start doing similar activities once a week.
