As coronavirus continues to rise in the country, several villages in Indian state of Goa have self-imposed 1-week lockdown as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus. The government and other members of the state are taking significant steps by analyzing the situation and taking care of the citizens while adhering to the strict lockdown norms.
Goa has reported 523 positive cases by now and various village administration are imposing fines upon people who are found violating the rules. On Saturday, 13 June, Goa police conducted a raid on online gambling activities in a shop at Kolvalkar Plaza and arrested as many as 8 people involved in the scene. The images of the individuals detained by the cops went viral of social media. The image released and the masks that were used to cover their faces drove Twitter rolling on the floor in laughter.

The police busted the gambling den on Saturday afternoon upon receiving information and captured an enormous INR 6.40 Lakh from the site. In an official release, Goa police said, “Today i.e. on June 13 at 14.45 hours upon credible information from SP/Special Branch, Panaji-Goa conducted a raid on online gambling activities in the shop at Kolvalkar Plaza, Taleigao Market under supervision of Superintendent Of Police, North Utkrisht Prasoon, IPS and seized following articles.”
The ones who organized the activity, Ajay Karjol and his brother Akshay Karjol were arrested while 6 others were held in the charge of engaging in illegal activity. However, further investigation of the gambling den scene is still underway. On 1 June, in a raid on a gambling den in Siolim, the Crime Branch arrested 8 persons and recovered INR 46,500.
The Crime Branch received information that the people were involved in the game of andar-bahar. An FIR under Section 11(2) of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act was registered against the accused.
