The 2023 Poker Dream Manila has been going on in full steam at Newport World Resorts, Manila, Philippines. The series, which started on 26th April, will draw its curtains on 7th May 2023. Currently, the Main Event is underway at the series amidst fanfare and excitement.
The PHP 66,000 ($1,211) buy-in Main Event has three starting flights with a guarantee of PHP20,000,000 GTD (~$360,994). Flight Day 1A took place on 4th May 2023, while flight Day 1B and Day 1C took place on 5th May 2023. Two Indian pros were seen grinding at the Main Event flights, namely Kanishka Samant and Sriharsha Doddapaneni.
Day 2 of the Main Event concluded on 6th May 2023 after the event had got its nine final tablists out of the 76 survivors from Day 1. The event had two Indians in the grind, who had made it to Day 2 and ensured a place in the money. Although both Doddapaneni and Samant couldn’t make it to the final table, the two ran deep and cashed impressive sums.
Samant, who qualified via flight Day 1A with a stack of 84,000 to start with, took the 54th spot for PHP 119,000 (~$2,150). On the other hand, Doddapaneni, who faced hard luck in Day 1A and 1B flights, probably qualified from flight Day 1C and managed to run deep on Day 2.
After losing a considerable stack in previous hands, Doddapaneni shoved his 110,000, and found a caller in Valeriy Pak. Doddapaneni’s pocket three’s couldn’t stand Pak’s A ♠ 2 ♦ , on the K ❤ T ♣ 5 ♦ T ♠ K ♣ board, as he faced an unfortunate bust out. He bowed out at the 22nd spot pocketing PHP214,000 ($3,866) for his finish.
Samant played flight 1A and has qualified for Day 2 of the event to be held tomorrow, 6th May 2023. Samant has bagged and tagged 84,000 chips, which he will have at his disposal on Day 2. Along with advancing to Day 2, Samant has also secured himself a spot in the money at this event. Doddapaneni also played the Day 1A flight, however, he couldn’t qualify for Day 2 after busting at the 86th spot. The top 22 players from the Day 1A flight have made it to Day 2.
Doddapaneni returned to play Day 1B flight today. However, the Poker Gods did not favour him, as he busted at the 83rd spot. Earlier today, he was seated on the featured table of the ongoing event alongside American poker pro Tom Dwan. It was an iconic moment for the Indian pro since he often calls himself ‘Indiandurr’ a name derived from Dwan’s screen name ‘durrrr.’
With the Day 1C flight still to be hosted, we can expect Doddapaneni to try one more time. Prior to this, Doddapaneni fell short of the final table at the Super High Roller event at the series after busting at the 9th place. He enjoyed a great run at the event after entering Day 2 as the chip leader and playing till the top 9. However, he couldn’t make it in the money at the event.
