Zhou Yueyang triumphs the APT Finale Taiwan Main Event

One of the major festivals of the Eastern zone, the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taiwan is underway at Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CPT Club), marking an end to the Main Event last night. After six prolonged days into the tournament, the trophy belonged to China’s Zhou Yueyang who rejoiced his first-ever live career win.

The Main Event captured the attention of a total of 319 players and ultimately creating a prize pool of TWD 9.28 million. The top 32 places strolled out after finishing in the money on Day 3. Maintaining his chip lead since Day 2, Hong Kong’s Hwang Sang Yeon led the final 8 into the showdown.

The action intensified when Hong Kong’s Lau King Lun Alan had to quit the table at 8^th place followed by USA’s Jeff Davis at 7^th being railed out by Yueyang’s higher pair of Aces over Queens. Joining the race was Hsu Piying (Kc 10c) whose trip Kings couldn’t survive Yueyang’s trips K and Queen kicker when the board ran 9c 4c Ks 5d Kd, ultimately resting at 6^th place. After hours of battling and struggling, the competition came down to the final two when Yueyang whacked Japan’s Takao Shimizu’s Ah 8s with his Ac Ad, eliminating him in the 3rd place.

That’s when the head-up got underway, Yueyang entered with a massive 10:1 chip lead. However, Yang doubled up soon with his straight flush. But that was it! After two hands, Yang’s Queens and Threes couldn’t survive Yueyang’s Aces and Queens, eliminating the at the second position and lifting the APT trophy, APT Ring and TWD 2,138,200 in prize money! After the win, the champion added, “I feel amazing! This is my first time in Taiwan, and I came to play the Main Event.”
