Xing Biao Zhu triumphs in 2019 APPT Kickoff Event


The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), owned and operated by PokerStars India, began with the 2019 APPT Korea at Paradise City in the city of Incheon. The series is scheduled between 5-14 April 2019. The series started off with APPT Kickoff KRW 50 million GTD and even declared its champion, first of the series.

The Kickoff drew a total of 420 entries to the felts, with a KRW 21,290,000 (12.94 Lakhs) cash prize going to the winner of the tournament. China’s Xing Biao Zhu topped this field and took home the above first-place cash prize, the trophy and the title after cutting a 3-way deal with Yifan Zhang and Ren Hao Bai, both fellow countrymen. Zhang earned KRW 18,900,000 and Bai KRW 18,000,000.

The top 3 first locked up the deal before playing for the trophy and the title. Zhu, with a slight chip lead. When the 3-way play began, Zhang sent Bai to the rail shortly afterward and heads-up between Zhu and Zhang .

Zhu started the battle with a chip deficit of 1:2. It was one-sided entering heads-up, but the tables were soon turned when he came-back, building on the momentum. He won two decisive pots and gained the valuable chip, which he held till the end. In the last hand of the tournament, Zhang was packing Ace-jack suited, leading Zhu’s King-three offsuit. The flop revealed a King and that was enough to seal the deal for Zhu.

Zhu now sits with over $400k in total live earnings till now. He said, “I feel pretty good. I won a tournament here [Paradise City] just last month so run pretty good in Korea. I felt I had an edge over the final table chip leader [Andrei Kim] so felt pretty confident about my chances going in.
