Wynn Macau Dealer Steals Chips Worth $6.1 Million

Macau Police are currently in pursuit of a Wynn Macau casino dealer who has reportedly stolen casino chips to the amount of almost HKD 48 million ($6.1 million). Macau’s Judiciary Police are currently investigating this theft that is said to have taken place on Tuesday. The suspect is a dealer in a VIP gambling club on the Wynn Macau property.

Authorities have revealed that the 49-year old casino dealer stole gaming chips from a VIP room at Wynn Macau before escaping from the main entrance. The theft was confirmed by the police on Wednesday but unfortunately, the suspect is yet to be located. The man is said to have changed into another jacket, grabbed the chips, put them into a bag, exited from the main entrance and jumped into a car.

Although earlier reports suggested that the suspect had wielded a knife, the police have confirmed that neither was the man armed, nor did he use any force or violence at the time of the crime. Surveillance records showed the man very coolly putting the chips into his bag and strolling out the doors of the casino. What he plans to do with these chips is not clear as yet.

The man is believed to have conducted this heist alone, but the possibility of there being accomplices hasn’t been ruled out as yet. Macau casinos have recorded similar internal thefts over the years and the police have quite a decent record of nabbing these thieves. However, Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has urged casinos to strengthen their security and staff supervision, to reduce the frequency of such unwanted events in the future.
