WSOPE: Tomas Ribeiro triumphs Event #11 PLO


The 11th bracelet event concluded yesterday with Tomas Ribeiro winning his career first bracelet in Event #11: €2,200 Pot-Limit Omaha after defeating Sweden’s Omar Eljach in heads-up. Ribeiro brought his home country, Portugal its 5th bracelet. WSOP Europe has been the greatest challenge for the poker enthusiasts representing their respective nation at King’s Casino.

The final day lasted for 6 long hours, with 8 players returning to the showdown. The event shared the prize pool among the top 41 places with each receiving a minimum amount of €3,210, including Event #2 PLO winner Dash Dudley (13th, €5,829), Daniel Negreanu (20th, €4,127), Sam Higgs (27th, €3,596), Jeff Madsen (30th, €3,596) and the only Indian to cash was Jagdeep Singh (40th, €3,210).

Day 2 chip leader and the 2018 Event #7 PLO 8-Handed winner Anson Tsang entered with 480,000 chips but unfortunately, his hopes were crushed ending his journey in the 6th position. Though Ribeiro started the day with an average stack, he eventually managed to take control of the table.

Marc Palatzky had the third-largest stack and soon leading and busting out include Christopher Frank, Leonid Yanovski, the defending champion Anson Tsang, and Ilyaz Dosikov. In the final hand of the tournament Eljach (Ah Kh Js 6s) had 1.36 million chips and Ribeiro (Kc Qs Qd 10s) raised to 300k.

When the board ran 6d 4h 4c Jd 9s, the latter rushed with his Queens and Fours defeating the former to settle in second place. Ribeiro walked out of the tournament after adding a prestigious title along with a massive sum of €128,314 and the most awaited gold bracelet. The player now sits in 26th place in Portugal’s All-Time money list with total live earnings of $425k.

Event #12: €100,000 Diamond High Roller

Day 2 of the 12th bracelet event, Diamond High Roller came to a standstill with Anatoly Filatov amassing an impressive 42,300,000 chips followed by Matthias Eibinger bagging 27,445,000 chips. The second flight kicked off with 25 players but only 8 managed to progress to the final day.

Event #13: €2,500 Short Deck No-Limit Hold’em

At Level 10, Day 1 of Short Deck NLHE came to an end at the WSOPE. The initial flight drew a total of 147 entries including 65 players and 82 re-entries. As the event progressed, only 35 competitors managed to survive. Topping this field was Arturs Scerbaks with 643,000 chips followed by the recent Event #8 Platinum High Roller winner Kahle Burns.

Other champions near the top of the leaderboard include Sam Higgs (395,500), Benny Glaser (310,500), Ismael Bojang (260,000), and John Cynn (227,000), Anthony Zinno (167,000), the Event #9 PLO/NLH Mix winner Anson Tsang (104,500), Robert Campbell (96,500), and Shaun Deeb (95,000) also made it through to Day 2.
