The year’s biggest poker series is undoubtedly the World Series of Poker (WSOP). This year, WSOP will host its coveted series for the 50th time. It has even announced the final schedule last month, which includes plenty of new events and some format changes like all NLHE events having BB ante, etc. A special “Golden Event”, along with other new events, will also be hosted to commemorate this special edition.
In a recent development, WSOP Editor-in-Chief Seth Palansky wrote a post on WSOP Blog announcing nine new online events which will be gold bracelet tournaments. This is the fifth consecutive time WSOP will add an online tournament in its mix of events.
Palansky said that online poker wasn’t permitted in the USA up until the last decade and most of bigger tournaments happened live. Since it’s allowed now, WSOP has over the years also become the longest-running online poker operator in the country, first opening in 2013.
Palansky wrote, “After shattering (its own) records for the largest U.S. online poker events of the year in 2018, WSOP.com believes a consistent schedule – same day and time each week – will lead to even bigger online gold bracelet events this year.”
The 9 online tournaments (except two) are scheduled to take place every Sunday from 2nd June to 14th July 2019 and WSOP will also offer one of its signature one-day tournaments where players can earn a gold bracelet from the comforts of their home.
Two of these 9 will take place on Wednesday, 19th June’s $500 Turbo Deepstack and 3rd July’s $3.2k High Roller. All nine events will start at 3.30 pm Pacific Time. Satellites will also be running for these online tournaments on WSOP.com and some have already begun. Since New Jersey was most vocal against the recent reversal of Wire Act by US DoJ, it remains to be seen whether NJ players can play in these online tournaments or not.
Apart from WSOP’s online ventures, there will also be the 25-Seat Scramble on 30th June which will award at least 25 seats to WSOP Main Event. There have been nine online bracelets awarded in the history of WSOP, which awarded $10,002,326 in prize money.
Bill Rini, head of online poker at WSOP said, “Just like the land-based WSOP, the annual summer series is also the best time for online poker players in the U.S. to chase big prize pools and WSOP gold bracelets. WSOP.com is offering a consistent gold bracelet schedule this year, plus non-stop satellites to both the online and live events, giving players the best opportunity to participate in the 50th Annual WSOP.”
The 2019 WSOP series will be held between 28th May – 16th July at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for updates on this one as well as other upcoming exciting range of international/Indian tournaments.
