WSOP 2024: Scott Seiver Nails Event 40 For 6th Bracelet

Scott Seiver triumphed in Event #40: $1,500 Razz, earning his sixth World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet and $141,374 in prize money. Seiver maintained a dominant performance throughout, starting Day 3 with the chip lead and rarely relinquishing it.

With this victory, Seiver joins the prestigious group of six-time bracelet winners, including poker legends like Daniel Negreanu, Shaun Deeb, Josh Arieh, and Brian Rast.

However, Scott Seiver’s ambitions extend beyond this latest triumph. “I want to win five more [this summer]. But realistically, I’ll probably only win two more,” he remarked.

Winner’s Reaction

Reflecting on his success, Seiver revealed that his recent wins were part of a broader plan. “It’s this weird feeling where you set a goal that should be close to impossible and then take the steps to do it.”

Seiver faced a formidable final table, including past bracelet winners Ben Yu, Maxx Coleman, and Brandon Shack-Harris. But for Seiver, winning bracelets is just one part of his summer goals. He aims to secure both the Player of the Year title and a spot in the Poker Hall of Fame.

“It’s the entire motivator,” he explained. “I really, truly want to win Player of the Year this year. I’m going to do as much as I can to make that happen,” Seiver further added. The pro believes this victory strengthens his Hall of Fame candidacy. “I’m going to keep going…whatever people need to see.”

Old School vs New School

The 2024 WSOP has seen several “old school” players achieve success, with Phil Ivey, John Hennigan, and Nick Schulman all winning bracelets this year, alongside Seiver. However, Seiver downplays the old school vs. new school distinction. “It’s not like there’s an old-school resurgence. It’s just that the best players are winning.”

Final Table Action

After Justin Liberto’s elimination in 10th place, the remaining nine players combined at a single feature table. Play continued nine-handed for an hour until Steven Abitbol was eliminated in ninth place, losing to Seiver’s eight-seven hand.

Over two hours passed before Ben Yu fell in eighth place, followed by Brad Lindsey in seventh, Akihiro Kawaguchi in sixth, and Soner Osman in fifth. Maxx Coleman was eliminated in fourth place after losing to Brandon Shack-Harris.

Place Player Country Prize (USD)
1 Scott Seiver United States $141,374
2 Brandon Shack-Harris United States $94,247
3 Ingo Klasen Germany $64,588
4 Maxx Coleman United States $45,117
5 Soner Osman United Kingdom $32,136
6 Akihiro Kawaguchi Japan $23,349
7 Brad Lindsey United States $17,313
8 Ben Yu United States $13,105
9 Steven Abitbol France $10,132

Seiver began three-handed play with half the chips in play. After some back-and-forth, he won the largest pot of the tournament, eliminating Ingo Klasen in third place. Seiver then bested Shack-Harris heads-up, making a ten-seven to Shack-Harris’s queen-jack to claim the title.
