“My Dream Has Come True In USA” Santhosh Suvarna On Winning 2nd WSOP Bracelet

Dreams do come true and if you need proof, just look at Indian poker pro Santhosh Suvarna. The poker pro cum entrepreneur has had a meteoric rise in popularity following his appearances on cash games and tournament streams, where he has never been afraid to splash around at the highest stakes.

At the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP), Suvarna proved he is more than just a high-stakes VIP as he took down the $250,000 Super High Roller event, earning his second WSOP bracelet. He topped a field of 75 entries to claim the lion’s share of the $18,675,000 prize pool, defeating online poker legend Ben Tollerene in heads-up play to seize the $5,415,152 first-place prize. This is India’s maiden $250K Super High Roller title and the biggest score ever (₹45+ Crore) registered by an Indian. This win also puts Suvarna in an elite list of pros who have two WSOP bracelets among Indians. Other bracelet winners from India include names like Aditya Sushant, Nikita Luther, Abhinav Iyer, and Aayush Aggarwal.

Tollerene, who was in control for most of the finale, missed out on the title, but the $3,537,135 runner-up prize should provide some consolation. Chris Hunichen rounded out the podium finishes, and it was his chips that allowed Suvarna to pull off the unlikely comeback against one of the best heads-up players in the game.

Suvarna’s victory was celebrated by his many fans, including Hustler Casino Live stars Nik Airball and The Professor, who praised him as “the nicest guy ever in poker” and admired his fearless approach to battling the game’s elite.

Suvarna’s poker journey has been marked by rapid improvement, as he has studied the decisions of top players and applied what he’s learned to his own game. This strategy has paid off, with his latest win putting him at the top of India’s All-Time Money List.

As the final table of the $250,000 Super High Roller unfolded, Suvarna emerged as a chip leader, positioning himself for a deep run and a chance to make history as the highest-scoring Indian in WSOP history.

However, he faced a formidable field of poker legends, including Phil Ivey, Jason Koon, Mikita Badziakouski, Justin Bonomo, Daniel Negreanu, Bryn Kenney, Nick Petrangelo and Jeremy Ausmus among others, all vying for their own WSOP glory.

From the button position, Ben Tollerene pushed his short stack of 9,700,000 all-in. Suvarna, in the big blind spot, called.

  • Tollerene: Q♦ 4♣
  • Suvarna: 10♥ 7♣

Tollerene was ahead with his Queen, and the J♠ A♥ 5♥ A♠ board looked favourable for a double-up. But, the river of 10♠ hit one of Suvarna’s few outs, giving him the victory. As Suvarna’s supporters erupted in celebration, Tollerene exited in second place for $3,537,135.
