WSOP 2024: Paawan Bansal Finishes 25th In Event 38


Event 38 of the World Series of Poker  (WSOP) saw seven Indians making it in the money. Poker pro Paawan Bansal took the biggest pay cheque among the Indian players who cashed at this event. Bansal took the 25th spot for a payday of $46,448. 

Event #38: $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em

This tournament had 8703 total entries which led to the final prize pool settling at $11,619,840. The $1,500 buy-in event saw Pedro Neves grabbing the title for a sum of $1,098,220. 

Coming to the Indians making a cash, apart from Bansal we also have, WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant ($5,455), Sanat Mehrotra ($9,210), Ashish Ahuja ($9,210), Kartik Ved ($5,455), Ankit Wadhawan ($5,455), and India’s first solo bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer ($3,663).

Bansal went all-in for 5,200,000 from the cutoff position with his rival Federico Castaing 3-betting from the button, to 10,200,000. The blinds folded leaving the two to fight it out.

  • Bansal: Q♥ Q♦ 
  • Castaing: A♠ Q♣

The board presented A♥ A♦ 3♠ 10♣ 8♦, giving Castaing trip aces and eliminating Bansal from the game.

Coming to the winner of Event 38, Pedro Neves entered the final table $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em as the clear favourite, holding nearly double the chips of his closest competitor, Aaron Johnson. 

Despite this advantage, he still had to overcome six opponents on Day 5 to secure his first WSOP bracelet. Neves maintained his chip lead throughout and emerged victorious.

Aaron Johnson finished in second place, earning $732,329, while Jerry Maher, who started the final day with one of the shortest stacks, secured third place for $550,920.
