WSOP 2024 ME: Kavin Shah And Tarun Goyal Make Day 5

Update

Kavin Shah and Tarun Goyal have been eliminated from the Main Event on Day 5. Goyal busted in the 347th position for $45,000 while Shah finished in the 191st position for a prize money worth $60,000.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2024 had a thrilling Day 4 with players putting their best foot forward to make Day 5. Out of the total 1,529 runners only 464 made Day 5 with the much awaited bubble bursting with two bubble boys. Yes, both Lucas Reeves and Christian Stratmeyer bubbled the Main Event with the latter claiming a free seat to the WSOP 2025 Main Event seat thanks to the Jack he pulled from the deck.

When it comes to the Indians making Day 5, we have Kavin Shah and Tarun Goyal advancing with the hope to clinch the top title. Shah has a stack of 2,230,000 chips while Goyal will fight the Day 5 competition with a stack of 1,150,000 chips. How far their journeys go in this record-breaking Main Event, is something only time will tell.

Who Made Day 5?

The 2024 WSOP Main Event lived up to its action-packed billing on Day 4, concluding with just 464 players remaining. Leading the charge is 2022 GPI Player of the Year Stephen Song, who boasts a mountainous stack of 4,740,000 chips. Hot on his heels are Nazar Buhaiov (3,875,000), Biao Ding (4,265,000), and the legendary Adrian Mateos (4,500,000), a four-time bracelet winner.

“It went good,” Mateos modestly told PokerNews. His understatement belied a day of dominance, where value bets found callers and bluffs saw folds. Adding another layer of intrigue, poker royalty Phil Ivey bagged chips for Day 5. Fresh off his 11th bracelet win – ending a decade-long drought – Ivey now seeks to etch his name in Main Event history. He’ll enter the fray with 650,000 chips, a potent weapon in his arsenal. Other notable survivors include Ren Lin, Aleksejs Ponakovs, Josh Reichard, and Hall of Famer John Hennigan. The commentary booth emptied out onto the felt as well, with Maria Ho and Tony Dunst both securing their Day 5 berths.

Reigning POY Bin Weng and Alex Livingston, who made a splash with a third-place finish for a cool $4 Million in 2019, also joined the Day 5 party. Livingston believes his cash game experience and adaptability will benefit him greatly moving forward. “This tournament is like the perfect opportunity for that,” he stated, highlighting the importance of adjusting strategies for each opponent. While acknowledging the long road ahead, Livingston can’t help but be excited about another potential deep run.

Rising star Jesse Lonis, still basking in the glow of his 2021 Main Event 25th place finish, is aiming for another impressive showing. His day started strong with a heroic bluff – a three-bet on the flop with ace-high culminating in a turn shove – and concluded with a respectable 2.5 Million chip stack. Lonis explained his thought process: “I just really was confident that he was floating me really light… You gotta pull it off to win the tournament.”

With 476 players remaining, the tension mounts and eliminations accelerate. Day 5 promises an enthralling spectacle as the field whittles down and the quest for poker glory intensifies.
