WSOP 2024 Highlights Day 46: High Rollers, Slow Rolls And More

The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) kept the adrenaline pumping on Day 46, with high roller action, a controversial slow roll, and ongoing championship battles.

Main Event Narrows the Field

The spotlight remained firmly on the $10,000 WSOP Main Event (Event #81). Day 6 whittled down the massive field to just 59 players, all vying for poker glory and a life-changing $10 Million first-place prize.

Wilhelm Wins Mystery Bounty

Sascha Wilhelm emerged victorious in Event #86: $1,000 Mystery Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha, taking home his biggest career score of $282,290. While he eliminated nearly 20 players, the biggest individual bounty remained elusive, falling short of $2,000.

Cheong’s Shocking Slow Roll in the High Roller

The $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (Event #92) kicked off with a bang, attracting 150 entries and potentially surpassing last year’s record. Joseph Cheong, chasing his second bracelet, currently leads the pack with a massive stack of 3,350,000 chips. However, his path to victory wasn’t without controversy. In a major pot, Cheong slow rolled his opponent David Coleman, who held a full house, before revealing quads for the win. The move left Coleman understandably frustrated, but both players will be back for Day 2 on 13th July.

Eight-Game Mix Championship Heads Up Battle

The $10,000 Eight Game Mixed Championship (Event #88) stretched into an unexpected Day 4. After a grueling ten-hour session, Calvin Anderson and Dai Ishibashi remain locked in heads-up play. Anderson holds a significant chip lead (7,545,000) over Ishibashi (3,905,000), and they’ll resume their battle on 13th July at 2 PM local time.

Mid-Stakes Championship Sees Strong Turnout

The inaugural $3,000 Mid-Stakes Championship (Event #89) is proving popular, with high participation and big names in the mix. A combined 917 players bagged chips from Days 1A and 1B, including Chance Kornuth, Ryan Leng, and former champions Jamie Gold and Ryan Riess. Jonathan Newman (Day 1A leader) remains on top overall, but Dusti Smith leads Day 1B with a stack of 492,000. Day 2 kicks off on 13th July at 11 AM local time.

Greenstein Falls in $3,000 H.O.R.S.E.

Barry Greenstein’s exit in 18th place marked the end of Day 2 for the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. (Event #91). The event will resume play on 13th July with just 17 players remaining for a shot at the $206,321 top prize. Wooram Cho leads the pack with 1,875,000 chips, followed by John Racener and David “ODB” Baker.
