The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) rages on at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, with Day 39 marking a turning point in the prestigious Main Event. Day 1C saw a dramatic increase in participation, with roughly 2,500 players buying into the coveted tournament. Day 1C surpassed the combined total number of entries from Day 1A and 1B. This surge brings the total number of entrants to around 4,250, though it still falls short of last year’s record-breaking 10,043. However, with one more Day 1 flight remaining and late registration options, there’s a chance the event could still surpass expectations.
The day wasn’t without its theatrics. Poker legend Phil Hellmuth made a grand entrance, channeling his inner kung fu master in a black belt and keikogi. While the outfit raised eyebrows, Hellmuth managed to translate his fighting spirit into a respectable stack of 66,700 chips at the end of play.
He has ARRIVED. @phil_hellmuth makes his @WSOP Main Event entrance.

Meanwhile, Event #80: $800 Independence Day Celebration concluded with an American victory. Fittingly named Francis Anderson emerged victorious, defeating Brent Lee heads-up to claim the coveted bracelet and a cool $501,040.
The Main Event’s surge in participation pushed the field to a total of approximately 4,250 players. While not quite reaching last year’s heights, there’s still a chance for a final rush with Day 1D and late registration options available.

Among the Day 1C survivors, several notable players progressed to Day 2 with reasonable stacks. Daniel Negreanu secured a stack of 37,900, while veterans like Todd Brunson (48,900) and Calvin Anderson (41,700) will also need to chip up on Day 2.
However, Robert Pardo currently reigns supreme as the overall chip leader with a staggering 441,000, dethroning Day 1B leader George Dolofan (314,000).
The event also attracted a plethora of established names. Arthur Morris (221,800), Justin Bonomo (174,100), Arden Cho (168,800), Chris Brewer (156,800), and Adrian Mateos (143,100) all bagged above-average stacks. Poker veterans like Mike Matusow (121,500) and Maria Ho (79,600) also secured their spot in Day 2.

Day 1C proved to be a good day for past champions. Joining the fray alongside Hellmuth were seven other Main Event winners:
However, not everyone shared the same fate. David Moses and Dan Bilzerian unfortunately became the fourth and fifth players, respectively, to bust out on the very first hand of the series. Only 2,094 players from Day 1C managed to advance to Day 2.
Day 1C saw multiple Indian players grinding to survive and make Day 2. But not everyone succeeded in this battle. Players like Yasheel Doddanavar (84,300), Santhosh Suvarna (60,600), Deepankur Gupta (60,500), Avneesh Munjal (56,700), Vinay Patel (56,400), Ankit Wadhawan (27,300), and Muskan Sethi (17,500) managed to progress ahead. Sadly for players like Gaurav Sood, Paawan Bansal, Aditya Agarwal, and Suresh Mandalapu the journey ended on Day 1C.
The road to the championship continues. Day 1D kicks off at noon on 6th July, with players merging into Day 2ABC on 7th July. The remaining Day 1D participants will then battle it out on Day 2D on 8th July.
