On Day 38 of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, Main Event excitement was in full swing as over 1,700 players selected Day 1A to start their journey towards becoming poker’s world champion. As the Main Event progressed, two players secured bracelets. Georgios Skarparis emerged victorious in Event #78: $1,000 Mini Main Event No-Limit Hold’em, defeating Alexandre Barbaranelli and earning $554,925 along with a gold bracelet, making him the second Cypriot, after Menikos Panayiotou, to win a WSOP bracelet.
Daniel Perkusic won the second bracelet of the night, taking home an impressive $2,100,325. The German player triumphed in Event #79: $50,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha, besting a final table that included notable players like Brian Rast, David Benyamine, Santhosh Suvarna, Jim Collopy, and runner-up Danny Tang.

Around 830 players participated in Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship on Day 1B. This was a decrease from the 1,118 entries last year, likely due to Fourth of July celebrations in Las Vegas and across the United States. Many players chose to delay their Independence Day festivities to play, including George Dolofan (314,000), the only player to exceed 300,000 chips after five two-hour levels. Dolofan’s third-largest cash previously came from the 2007 WSOP Main Event. Matthew Sabia (297,400) and Patrick Hagenlocher (270,300) also finished Day 1B in leading positions. 10-time bracelet winner Erik Seidel (183,600) had a strong start, placing him in the top 25 overnight.
Seidel expressed to PokerNews his satisfaction with tripling his stack but likened the Main Event to a lottery due to the challenging odds of winning. Further down the chip counts were Artur Martirosian (166,300) and 2019 WSOP Main Event champion Hossein Ensan (166,000). Other Main Event champions in the mix included Koray Aldemir, who bagged 94,300, while Greg Raymer, who gave the opening ‘shuffle up and deal’ call, was eliminated before the day’s end.

Nearly four dozen bracelet winners or $25 Fantasy Draft players advanced to Day 2 from this flight. Dan Shak (153,500), David “Bakes” Baker (145,200), and Ben Yu (125,600) ended in the top 100, with Toby Lewis (106,000), Seth Davies (73,900), and Renan Bruschi (60,300) finishing with more chips than they started with. Players needing to improve on Day 2 include Anthony Zinno (45,700), Triple Crown winner Jake Cody (32,100), and Patrick Leonard (18,800).

Indian origin player, Nipun Java (1,925,000) ended Day 1B of Event #80: $800 Independence Day Celebration with the second-largest stack, aiming to add to his three WSOP bracelets. Java won two bracelets in 2017 and a third last year in the $777 Lucky 7s online event. Day 1B saw a field of 3,928, but the fast structure reduced the players to 206 by the end of 22 levels. William Zaiss (2,280,000) led the chip count, with China’s Che Chun Chu (1,880,000) in third place.
