WSOP 2024 Highlights Day 17: Phil Ivey Wins Historic 11th Bracelet

Another incredible day of poker is in the bag at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. Four players secured bracelets on Day 17, including Phil Ivey, who notched the 11th WSOP victory of his illustrious career. Ivey’s win understandably grabbed headlines, but there was plenty more action in “Sin City.” Read on for a recap of today’s events.

Event #29: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw

Championship finally crowned its winner after spilling over into an unscheduled fourth day. Day 3 ended with Danny Wong leading Jason Mercier and Phil Ivey in the hunt for the $347,440 top prize and the bracelet. Ivey triumphed, securing his 11th WSOP bracelet and edging ahead of legends Doyle Brunson, Erik Seidel, and Johnny Chan, while closing the gap on 17-time champion Phil Hellmuth.

Nicholas Seward claimed the bracelet and $516,135 top prize in Event #31: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed. David Coleman, who entered the final day with over three times as many chips as any of his five opponents, finished fourth. Seward defeated Konstantyn Holskyi heads-up to capture his first bracelet.

Event #32: $1,500 Seven Card Stud ended Day 2 with nine players remaining, led by Michael Noori. However, it was British pro Richard Ashby who emerged victorious, earning $113,725 and his second WSOP bracelet in Stud events.

Alex Manzano won the fourth bracelet of Day 17, becoming the champion of Event #33: $600 Pot-Limit Omaha DeepStack (8-Handed). Ninety-five of the 2,402 entrants returned to the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas on 13th June with Manzano being the last man standing.

$2,500 NLHE Freezeout Reaches Its Final Day; Antonio Galiana Leads

Day 2 of Event #34: $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout concluded with 13 players bagging up chips, led by Spain’s Antonio Galiana. He returns on Day 3 with 90 big blinds, ahead of Patrick Leonard in second and Romain Lewis in third.

Finland’s Juha Helppi aims for a third career bracelet, Brett Apter for his second, and Jeremy Ausmus seeks his seventh. Ausmus’ fellow $25K Fantasy Draft pick Josh Reichard returns as the shortest stack. Day 3 starts at 12:00 PM local time on 14th June.

The $1,500 H.O.R.S.E.: Who Will Ride It Home to Victory?

Only 23 players remain in Event #35: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. Bryan Jolly is the chip leader, but all eyes are on Yuri Dzivielevski, the reigning champion, who bagged 690,000 chips after a rollercoaster Day 2.

Other bracelet winners still in contention include Phillip Hui, Daniel Strelitz, and veteran John Cernuto. Players return at 1:00 PM local time on 14th June to play down to a winner. Will Dzivielevski retain his title?

Indians At WSOP 2024

Santhosh Suvarna was grinding in Event #39: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (8-Handed). This WSOPE bracelet winner made Day 2 but sadly busted in the 34th position. Event #36: $800 8-Handed No-Limit Hold’em DeepStack had three Indians—Ashish Anilkumar, Sanat Mehrotra, and Anil Adiani. The trio made Day 2 but could not progress further.

Huge Field of 4,278 More Than Decimated in the $800 NLHE DeepStack

Event #36: $800 No-Limit Hold’em DeepStack 8-Handed saw 4,278 players creating a $3,011,712 prize pool. Only 259 players remained after Day 1, led by Joey Couden with 3,280,000 chips.

Among the survivors are seasoned pros like Martin Zamani, Brandon Sheils, and Chris Brewer. Timur Margolin, Adam Hendrix, Ari Engel, and Vanessa Kade also have stacks placing them in the top half of the chip counts. Day 2 begins at 11:00 AM local time on June 14, aiming to crown a champion.

Big Names Galore Enter the $10K Big O

Event #37: Big O Championship drew 320 players on its first day, with 120 advancing. Wing Po Liu leads with over 500,000 chips. Day 2 will see many stars return, including Dylan Weisman, Ryan Hughes, Farid Jattin, Yuval Bronshtein, David Williams, and Christian Harder.

Other notable players include Matt Glantz, Freddy Deeb, Mike Matusow, Adam Friedman, Chad Eveslage, Sean Winter, Erick Lindgren, Nick Guagenti, Nick Schulman, and Hall of Famer Brian Rast. Live reporting resumes at 1:00 PM local time on 14th June.
