WSOP 2024 Day 20: Phil Hellmuth Inching Closer To Bracelet #18

Day 20 of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas saw fewer events but a significant number of participants. An impressive 2,831 players returned for Day 2 of the $1,500 Monster Stack, filling tables across both venues. As the Monster Stack field shrank to a more manageable size, one of poker’s elite players claimed a coveted WSOP bracelet.

James Obst from Australia triumphed in Event #42: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship, overcoming Paul Volpe in a lengthy heads-up duel. This victory marked Obst’s second career bracelet, while Volpe fell short of joining the four-time winners’ club.

In Event #41: No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha Double Board Bomb Pot, a new addition this year, Xixiang Luo emerged victorious after an intense heads-up battle with Daniel Hachem. Luo proved to be a deserving champion, although Hachem’s valiant effort made the final outcome uncertain.

Phil Hellmuth’s Quest For Bracelet #18

Phil Ivey recently added his 11th WSOP bracelet, closing the gap on Phil Hellmuth. However, Hellmuth is now in contention for his 18th bracelet in Event #43: $1,500 Mixed Omaha, where he holds a top-six stack among the remaining 22 players.

Hellmuth enters the final day with 1,285,000 chips, placing him sixth in the chip counts. Only Ying Chu (1,865,000), Dylan Lambe (1,845,000), Stephen Hubbard (1,725,000), Joshua Adcock (1,665,000), and Michael Rodrigues (1,470,000) have larger stacks.

Notable players aiming to thwart Hellmuth’s quest include Nathan Gamble (990,000), Shaun Deeb (780,000), Derek Raymond (555,000), and Filippos Stavrakis (490,000). Tune in to PokerNews from 1:00 PM local time on 18th June to see if Hellmuth can secure his 18th bracelet.

Lima Leads the Monster Stack After Day 2

Day 2 of Event #38: $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em saw 2,831 players compete, with 414 advancing by the end of the night. Vinicius Lima (3,700,000) emerged as the chip leader.

Lima, with over $1.1 Million in live tournament earnings, could add $1,098,220 and a WSOP bracelet to his accolades if he wins this event. The money bubble burst with John Allen’s elimination in 1,307th place, guaranteeing the remaining players at least $5,455. Final table participants will secure six-figure payouts.

Among those advancing were Stephen Song (2,550,000), Alexandre Reard (2,100,000), Joao Simao (1,810,000), Timur Margolin (1,705,000), Jake Schwartz (1,575,000), Shannon Shorr (1,520,000), Ryan Leng (1,235,000), Alex Foxen (610,000), and Barry Greenstein (590,000). Day 3 begins at 11:00 AM local time on 18th June.

Wai Kiat Lee Nearing His First Bracelet

Event #44: $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em attracted 1,561 entrants, narrowing down to 235 after 16 levels. Jianfeng Sun (820,000) and Jed Friedman (806,000) lead, but Wai Kiat Lee (557,000) remains in contention for his first bracelet.

Lee, a UK-based Malaysian, transitioned from low-stakes to high roller events, amassing numerous six-figure scores, including a $1,030,000 payday. A bracelet, however, still eludes him, but this event might change that.

Notable players advancing include Matt Stout (381,000), Daniel Sepiol (271,000), James Chen (217,000), and WSOP Main Event champions Ryan Riess (164,000) and Koray Aldemir (63,000). Day 2 begins at 11:00 AM on 18th June.

Event #45: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, known for its high-caliber participants, saw 152 players reduced to 87 after nine levels, with late registration open until the end of Level 10 on Day 2.

Maxx Coleman leads with 307,500 chips, followed by Mike Leah (282,500) and Clayton Mozdzen (273,500). Other notable players include David Prociak (241,000), Daniel Strelitz (205,500), and Brandon Shack-Harris (199,000).

Day 2 also features Maria Ho (177,500), Brad Ruben (163,000), Bryce Yockey (153,500), Ben Yu (149,500), David “Bakes” Baker (134,000), John Hennigan (106,500), Nick Schulman (93,500), Phil Ivey (73,500), and Yuri Dzivielevski.
