The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event witnessed a familiar, yet fleeting, face – Dan Bilzerian. The social media star and self-proclaimed poker aficionado entered the fray, only to be eliminated within a mere two hands.
Dan Bilzerian’s quick exit occurred during Day 1C, a day marked by Phil Hellmuth’s flamboyant entrance. PokerNews reporter Kai Cocklin pieced together Bilzerian’s short-lived journey by interviewing players who shared his table (424) at the Horseshoe Grand Ballroom.
🌟 We’re thrilled to announce that Johnny Chan, the legendary 1987 and 1988 Main Event winner with 10 WSOP gold bracelets, will be joining us for the official Shuffle Up and Deal on Day 1C of the 55th Annual World Series of Poker Main Event! #wsop2024#wsopmain pic.twitter.com/XivgNejOPf

Bilzerian’s first attempt at glory involved a three-bet call against Scottish player Derek Reid. He then proceeded to “triple-barrel,” meaning he bet on all three streets after the flop, turn, and river. Unfortunately for Bilzerian, Reid held pocket aces and simply check-called all the way down, revealing his winning hand after Bilzerian’s unsuccessful bluff. “I just didn’t think he had it,” Reid admitted, showcasing the risky nature of Bilzerian’s play.

The final hand proved equally unfortunate. Canadian player Jonathan Dwek raised with Ace-Jack, Bilzerian shoved all-in with queen-five from the big blind, and Dwek called, ultimately hitting a flush to send Bilzerian packing.
While Bilzerian’s 2024 WSOP appearances are uncommon (his only live cash came from a deep run in the 2009 Main Event), he boasts of success in private games, claims sometimes corroborated by poker professionals like Chance Kornuth. Additionally, a recent six-figure win on Hustler Casino Live bolstered his image as a high-stakes gambler.
However, Bilzerian’s reputation goes beyond poker. Known for disparaging remarks towards poker players and widely regarded as misogynistic, controversy seems to follow him. A brief stint as a brand ambassador for GGPoker in 2020 ended abruptly, mirroring the swiftness of his 2024 Main Event exit.
Following his elimination, Bilzerian made a swift exit from the Horseshoe, likely signaling the end of his WSOP run this summer. While his presence may have been short-lived, it provided a brief glimpse into the intense world of the WSOP Main Event, a place where fortunes can be won and lost in a heartbeat.
