Everyone knows about the World Series of Poker (WSOP) which takes place in Las Vegas each year. The series has a super-rich history and some of the best players go down in the history books each year. There’s a lot of money and fame and WSOP gold bracelets on offer each year, with the even growing in numbers every time it’s held.
Currently, the WSOP 2022 series is taking place at two new locations – Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino and Paris Las Vegas. Several players have already cashed in millions of dollars and taken home shiny gold bracelets as well. However, we want to focus on the most consistent players, who end up in the top few ranks of the WSOP Player of the Year (POY) Race.
The WSOP 2022 POY Race will include results from all open bracelet events of the series in Las Vegas, which began on 31st May 2022, and will also include the Nevada / New Jersey WSOP online bracelet events. And the tournaments excluded from the POY Leaderboard include Casino Employees, Seniors, Super Seniors, Ladies, and Tag Team tournaments.
Everyone wants to be at the top of the WSOP POY Race and if you look at some of the past winners, you’ll see a lot of celebrated poker pros in the list. Daniel Negreanu, Chris Ferguson, Shaun Deeb, and others have won the WSOP POY Award in past years, while the most recent winner was Josh Arieh, someone who was a nominee to the 2022 Poker Hall of Fame as well.
For those who don’t know, there’s a formula associated with POY points, much like what is used for live and online events across the world. The many factors that contribute to these POY points include the buy-in of the bracelet events, the number of entries, finishing place, and more. If you want to read up a little bit more about the WSOP POY formula, read here.
There’s a lot of bragging rights associated with being at the top of the WSOP POY Leaderboard year on year. Not only does it prove that you’re among the finest of poker players in the world in that series, but you also get some added benefits for winning the POY race, including the following:
RANK | NAME | POINTS |
1 | Daniel Zack | 4,530.64 |
2 | Daniel Weinman | 3,922.54 |
3 | Koray Aldemir | 3,111.27 |
4 | Shaun Deeb | 2,960.09 |
5 | David Peters | 2,785.97 |
6 | Joao Simao | 2,735.76 |
7 | Yueqi Zhu | 2,596.66 |
8 | Brian Rast | 2,459.36 |
9 | Dario Sammartino | 2,414.38 |
10 | Alex Foxen | 2,390.35 |
Daniel Zack is the only one on the list with two bracelets so far at WSOP 2022 and that’s why he’s topping the list with a huge lead as of now. He’s likely to go on to win if he keeps it up, but Daniel Weinman in second spot will be looking at overpowering him before the series ends. Currently, Phil Ivey and Shaun Deeb are the only ones on the list with no bracelet in this series but knowing their calibre, they’re capable of changing that status soon, or even winning the race without any titles this year.
Quite a few tournaments are still left on the WSOP 2022 schedule and we may see a lot of ups and downs on the WSOP POY Leaderboard as well. We will be updating these top rankings on a daily basis (last updated 29th June 2022) based on the results of daily tournaments taking place in Vegas, so stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com to know who’s at the top everyday…
