WSOP 2020: India’s ‘Alex_52’ 3rd in Event #55; Garla wins


India is so close to bring home the fourth bracelet! And all eyes were once again on ‘Alex_52’, who is killing it by finishing third this time in the WSOP Event #55: HK$8,000 NLHE Asia Championship. As we all know that the International leg of the standout poker festival of the year is taking place in GG Network, the Indian poker enthusiasts are highly excited to bring home the coveted gold piece.

The 55th Event of the 2020 WSOP Online series attracted a strong field of 3,247 entries resulting in the accumulation of a head turning $3.20 million prize pool. Riding ahead of the rest was Brazil’s Luis ‘Xapilskinha’ Assuncao Garla who knocked out poker coach Alexandros ‘THE Sheriff’ Theologis in heads-up to claim the top prize of $461,709. The champion has $518K in lifetime winning. In 2014, Garla finished 34th in WSOP Main Event for a payday of $230,487. He is the 8th Brazilian player to enter the winner’s circle.

After the bubble burst, the top 404 places earned a payout including several Indians Divanshu ‘d0rk21’ Khurana finished 6th for $84,979 (~INR 63.65 Lakhs), the 2019 WSOP Event #84: The Closer champ Abhinav ‘OBellaCiao’ Iyer ended up 15th for $15,641 (~INR 11.71 Lakhs), ‘inonhmeansfu’ earned $4,234 (~INR 3.17 Lakhs) in 132nd place and so on. Whereas, ‘Alex_52’ once again placed his hands over a life altering $234,610 (~INR 1.75 Crores). A couple of days ago, the skilled pro captured the second place in WSOP Online Event #52: $1,000 NLHE for $270,190 (~INR 1.55 Crore) that makes it a total of over INR 3 Crores!

Other notable names to make big cash in the event include Martin Zamani, Joao Vieira, Rui Ferreira, Alexandre Mantovani, Nick Maimone, Kristen Bicknell and so on.

The first casualty from final table was Spain’s Ignacio ‘Curandero’ Moron followed by Vladas ‘Vladiator13’ Tamasauskas, Eduards ‘IlIlIlIliIIl’ Kudrjavcevs. India’s Khurana was eliminated by ‘Alex_52’ in the 6th place. Soon after the dismissal of Alan ‘TheCockroach’ Schein in the 4th place. Three-handed play began between ‘Alex_52’, Alexandros Theologis and Luis Assuncao Garla.

‘Alex_52’ raised the button to 2.4 million and Luis Assuncao Garla three-bet. The latter piled it in for 21 million and Garla called.

  • Garla: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

Unfortunately, ‘Alex_52’ found no help in {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop. With {k-Clubs} turn and {7-Hearts} river, the Indian finished in the 3rd place to take home a phenomenal payout of $234,610!

In no time, Garla captured his first career bracelet and a hefty payday as he flopped top pair as the board came QhTs4h5sTh.

Thus, eliminating Greece’s Alexandros Theologis in the second place for $461,709 prize money!
