WSOP 2019: Phil Hui wins Event #58, Joe Foresman ships #59

Event #58: $50,000 Poker Players Championship

What a story it is for USA’s Phil Hui so far, who was busy grinding in $150 tournaments in August last year. Less than 10 months later, he wins one of the biggest buy-in tournaments of the WSOP 2019 series along with the biggest live win of his career and a maiden gold bracelet to show for his efforts.

“When it was finally over, it just hit me. I still don’t know if it’s real or not. This is the one tournament that I wanted to play. Just to be lucky to play it… and to win it… it’s incredible,” said an elated Hui after getting his 9th cash of WSOP 2019 and beating an all-American Final Table. He won a massive $1,099,311 for this effort.

Event #59: $600 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack Championship

We had quite a few Indians participating in this tournament because of the affordable buy-in and Naresh Veeravalli made the deepest run among them, finishing in 22nd place. However, it was USA’s Joe Foresman who ultimately took down the Deepstack Championship title, defeating 6,140 entries to the crown.

Not only did this amount of $397,903 become Foresman’s biggest live cash but it was also his first WSOP cash and honestly, his first live cash ever. His total career winnings also read $397,903 at this point of time. He earned his first gold bracelet and also added a free $10,000 seat into the 2019 WSOP Main Event.

“It was fun to play in. Once we got into the money, I was thrilled no matter what happened. I would’ve been happy cashing out $1,500, $2,000. When I got to the final table today, quite frankly, I said if I finished in fifth, I don’t care. I mean, it’s still $100,000. This is still more than anything I could’ve ever imagined,” said the champion.
