WSOP 2019: Abhinav Iyer leads 5 Indians after ME Day 1A

It’s that time of the year we have all been waiting for, for 11-12 months now. A few hours back, the biggest poker tournament of the world kicked off in Las Vegas. We’re talking about the WSOP Main Event and the festivities began at Rio All Suites earlier today with Day 1A – the first of three starting flights.

We’ve had 100-odd Indian players in Vegas over the course of WSOP 2019 but not too many of them participated in Day 1A among the overall field of 1,335 entries that registered today. At the end of five 2-hour levels, we finally halted for the day and 960 players managed to get a bag to Day 2 of the tournament, which included 5 Indian poker players.

Leading Team India is none other than Abhinav Iyer, who has had a stellar year in live and online poker so far, including a career-best score when he shipped APT Vietnam in January. Now, he has bagged 79,500 chips and moves on to Day 2 of WSOP 2019 Event #73: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em MAIN EVENT – World Championship.

Hundreds of past bracelet winners participated today while our very own PokerStars India Team Pro Muskan Sethi also participated but busted her stack during the day. Other known names to bust during the day include Chris Moorman, Brian Altman, Liv Boeree and former Australian cricketer, Shane Warne.

Indians to progress from 1A of the WSOP ME:

1. Abhinav Iyer – 79,500
2. Satchit Kapur – 59,100
3. Vikram ‘Lungi’ Kumar – 45,300
4. Rohan Dhawan – 23,000
5. Jasven Saigal – 18,600

Bryan Campanello emerged as the chip leader on Day 1A with a stack of 417,500 (522 big blinds) and he’ll be taking a big advantage into Day 2. 4th July will be Day 1B but we’re expecting the biggest field to emerge on Day 1C on 5th July, including plenty more Indian players.
