WPT UK Main Event crowns Simon Brandstrom the new champion!

Swedish poker pro Simon Brandstrom prevailed over the field at the 2019 WPT UK series to take down the $3,300 Main Event title at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Room. Brandstrom not only grabbed the biggest share of prize money but in doing so he also becomes the first person to win a WPT Main Event and WPT DeepStacks title.

Day 3 saw 100 players returning to the event, the competition resumed from Level 18 coinciding with the levels played in the online Day 1 and 2. The Swedish pro claimed the day bagging 4 million chips after 11 hours of action. Other notable players chipping up on Day 3 of the Main Event include Ryan Mandara with 3,025,000 chips, Paul Siddle with 2,395,000 chips, partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Main Event champion Maria Lampropulos bagging 2,200,000 chips, Manig Loeser with 1,330,000 chips, Paul Jackson with 1,215,000 chips and so on.

Day 4 saw 100 whittle down to the final 9. Brandstrom entered in the best position to take down the prestigious title, trophy, and prize money, starting the day as the chip leader. In Level #35 (1,25,000/2,50,000 ante 2,50,000) Brandstrom played against Ryan Mandara in heads-up. In the final hand of the tournament, the former (9h 7s) and the latter (Js Tc) completed the blinds to see the flop opening up 9c 7c 3d. A pretty good flop for the chip leader who hits two pair while his opponent was not too disappointed with that flop and his gutshot draw. Holding that strong hand, Brandstrom decides to play it coy and checks which get a bet of 550,000 from Mandara that the former calls. The turn card 4c continues to see Brandstrom slow-playing with another check and his opponent fires out once again which is flatted by the chip leader. On the river, Kh Mandara moves all-in putting his tournament life at risk with the continued bluff. Brandstrom snaps off and takes down the pot and the title, winning the WPT UK Main Event for $330,000 (~INR 2.34 Crore).

The Swedish sits on 12th place in Sweden’s all-time money list with total live earnings of $2.55 million. His last recorded live score win was € 5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event, and this victory added another significance to his career-best records.
