The inaugural edition of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia that landed for the very first time at NagaWorld is experiencing tough competition, packed with action and immersed in cards and chips throughout the day. The Main Event’s three starting flights especially assembled some of the best-known Indian players and others beyond the Asian circuit.
The initial three flights attracted a huge field of 750 entries, each one chipping in $1,100 buy-in, one of the biggest events to be hosted in Cambodia! The tournament observed various chip leaders and their struggle to battle out their opponents and grab the WPT crystal trophy and the winner’s prize of $131,460!
After 13 hours of serious grinding, the penultimate day of the record-breaking season reached the final 9 with Malaysia’s Kai Fu Wong amassing the largest stack of 4,700,000 chips followed by Brian Tougias with 4,140,000 chips and Singapore’s Alex Lee in the third place with 3,415,000 chips.
With only 148 survivors on Day 2, the bubble burst with a long list of 94 players getting paid. While the casino was brightened to see the remaining 9 advancing to the final table, Indian viewers were caught in a whirlwind, watching their representatives fall out of the race.
Day 2 saw 8 Indians in contention including Paawan Bansal, Madhav Gupta who busted before the money along with Kartik Ved who started his day with an impressive stack of 218,000. Ved was railed out by Yuwen Pan holding J-T. Pan found a pair of Tens on the board, pushing out Ved who was clutching onto Q9 and didn’t receive any help from the board.
Next in action was Jaewang Kim who found his pairs of Aces and Queens on the board driving out Dhaval Mudgal’s pocket Tens. Meherzad Munsaf also had a bad beat to unfortunately fall out in 108th place. Munsaf’s Queen found its pair on the flop, until his opponent’s pocket Fours hit a set on the river and ended his day.
Other notable Indians ending in money included the first to rail after the money bubble burst, Romit Advani (94th, ~INR 1.14L), Raju Jaruplavath (41st, ~INR 2.13L) and the WSOP bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer (20th, ~INR 4.21L).
