World Poker Tour postpones Cambodia Main Tour 2020

For months, the COVID-19 virus has been ruling the world, cancelling/postponing events, shutting down of commercial, private sectors and other non-essentials. Numerous countries are in the state of lockdown pushing away dates for their next events. If we talk about the poker world, one of the oldest and prestigious brands the World Poker Tour (WPT) postponed its Cambodia Main Tour 2020.

This news came after the biggest event the 51^st annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) was rescheduled to take place in fall 2020. In February, WPT announced the premiere WPT Main Tour to be held at NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, originally slated to run between 15 to 28 July. The festival was supposed to open Season XIX of the WPT and would have been the first Main Tour event to be held in the Asia-Pacific region since Season XII.

In the light of the current events, the Connaissance Management announced yesterday as a precautionary measure, the brand has made an early decision to postpone the festival to a later date.

The 2020 WPT Cambodia is supposed to be packed with 26 events with poker fanatics looking forward to the $3,500 buy-in Main Event previously dated to be held on 21 to 25 July 2020, where the champion would receive an entry in the WPT Tournament of Champions worth 15,000 to take place in Las Vegas at the end of XIX. The second and third place finishers were to collect $3,500 entry into the WPT NagaWorld Asia Pacific Championship Main Event on May 2021.

 

In November 2019, the biggest-ever live poker tournament in Cambodia saw Brian Tougias outlasting a record-breaking field of 750 entries to clinch on to the WPT Cambodia Main Event title which also generated the largest ever prize pool in Cambodian history.
