The government of Macau recently announced that it would allow the entry of tourists from only 41 countries, starting from Thursday, 1st September 2022. These 41 countries include the United States of America (USA), Japan, Australia, among others. Unfortunately, India is not on the list of 41 countries.
This decision will restrict Indian tourists from entering the Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. However, India is not the only Asian country to be barred. The list also excludes other Asian nations including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
The Chief Executive of Macau on behalf of the Macau government issued an order no. 166/2022 that prohibits the entry of non-residents into the country. The decision was taken in accordance with the latest directives from the Health Bureau. It will allow only citizens of the 41 countries. However, according to the COVID-19 protocols in the country, they too will have to furnish reports showing they test COVID-19 negative and have to undergo a seven-day quarantine period.
