What Are The Different Poker Variants?

Poker is a popular and interesting card game. Generally, when talking about poker, Texas Hold’em is the most common variant that comes to mind. But did you know that there are several variants of the game that have evolved over the years?

Omaha, Razz, Seven Card Stud, and Five Card Draw are just a few of them. Besides, there are other variants too that combine a number of different variants such as H.O.R.S.E. and 10 Game Mix.

Common variants of poker:

Texas Hold’em

The most common and widely played variant of the game is Texas Hold’em. This variant is played in two formats. One is No-Limit Hold’em (NLH) and the other one is Limit Hold’em. Be it live casinos and online poker games, Texas Hold’em is played across all forms.

In this variant, each player is dealt two hole cards, followed by five community cards being dealt face-up on the table. Players can use a combination of their own hole cards and community cards to make the best possible five-card hand.

Omaha

Omaha is similar to Texas Hold’em, however, the only difference here is the number of cards being dealt. Another significant difference is that here the players must compulsorily use two of their hole cards and three of the community cards to make a hand. Omaha itself has different formats, such as Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) or Omaha Hi-Lo (Omaha 8 or better).

Seven-Card Stud

In the seven-card stud poker variant, every player receives face-up and face-down cards over multiple betting rounds. The aim of every player is to make the best five-card hand out of the seven cards they are dealt during the course of the game.

Five-Card Draw

After Texas Hold’em, the next easiest poker variant is the five-card draw variant. Here every player is dealt five hole cards, and they get the opportunity to replace (draw) some or all of their cards in order to improve their hand. Once the draw is completed, a final round of betting takes place, and the player with the best hand wins.
