Vinod Megalmani is in the news a lot lately, especially after winning the recent Millionaire on The Spartan Poker for INR 25 Lakhs, which increased his popularity even further. He even featured in the 2019 Vietnam Kickoff, where our Indian contingent made deep runs in multiple tournaments and held the tri-colour high. Megalmani continued his winning streak and went on to ship the biggest event on IOPC Day 8.
The India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) saw Day 8 being hosted on Spartan, which had a total of 5 events. The biggest of them all was the Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) High Roller INR 30 Lakhs GTD. The tournament had a buy-in of INR 33k for which the prize pool came to INR 39,30,000 chipped in by the 131-strong entry field (including 32 re-entries).
The tournament was fourth in line on the day and started yesterday at 9 pm and was in the books by 4.07 am today morning. Megalmani played for over 7 hours to ship the tournament and the 1st place cash prize of INR 11,00,400. The tournament being a High Roller saw a lot of talented players and regulars from across the country in the field and high-adrenaline competition was ensured.
Megalmani beat ‘Wuhaha’ in heads-up to bag his title. The runner-up had already taken a huge blow in the end and was down to over 71:1 chip deficit in the last hand and shoved with Jc 2s Tc 4h. The board ran Ks 7d Ts 9s 3c and Megalmani shipped the title with a pair of Kings, having 2h Kc 6d Qd against Wuhaha’s Ten-pair.
Coming back to the champion of the tournament Megalmani, he has played a lot online and has number of title-wins to his name. The 24-year old shipped the SSS Main Event back in June 2018 for INR 15.44 Lakhs, making an awesome win on Spartan. He also completed a 2.o.K win back in early 2018. His most recent win before the staggering Millionaire achievement was shipping PokerBaazi’s PPL PLO HR for nearly INR 6 Lakhs. Winning high-stakes tournaments this early in his career makes a huge difference and he’ll be looking to continue this trend in the exciting line-up of events in 2019.
Being the HR, the Final Table itself saw a few regs making the grind worthwhile for Megalmani. Finishing 3rd was Anirban Das aka ‘pokernoob’ for INR 3,93,000, who even won an event in IOPC (IOPC #10). Other known players to rank in the top 15 paid places were Manoj Pentakota (9th – INR 78.6k), Mayank Jaggi (10th – INR 58,950), Ratul Steves (11th – 47,160), Akshay Nasa (15th – INR 47,160) and a whole bunch of known players who were in the field but unfortunately didn’t finish with a pay-check.
