Veteran Indian Actress Sridevi Passes Away

They called her one of Bollywood’s first female superstars; they called her one of India’s most versatile actors; she had a career spanning over four decades; she acted in 300 films and was even awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2013. This legendary actress, is Sridevi Kapoor. However, she is no more 🙁

The 54-year old actress was in Dubai with her family to attend a wedding, when she suffered a cardiac arrest in her hotel room on Saturday evening. A source close to the family confirmed that husband Boney Kapoor found her motionless in the bathtub and the medical team had failed to revive her.

Sridevi Kapoor made her Bollywood debut in ‘Solva Sawan’ in 1978 and had had an illustrious career since then, regarded as the most popular actress through the 1980’s and 90’s. She was briefly married to Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty in the 80’s, and then to Boney Kapoor in 1996, following which she took a 15-year break from the film industry.

She made her comeback to films in 2012, in Gauri Shinde’s ‘English Vinglish’, only to take another 5-year break before she starred in the revenge-drama film ‘Mom’ in 2017. She earned critical acclaim ?for her performances in both these movies and her sudden passing away has come as a huge shock to the entire film industry.

Sridevi was in Dubai with her husband and younger daughter Khushi when this tragic event occurred, while her older daughter Janhvi Kapoor stayed back in India for shooting, getting ready to make her debut in the film industry. Tweets of grief have been pouring in since her demise. Have a look:

An autopsy was carried out by Dubai authorities and her family is now awaiting laboratory reports. Her body is then expected to be flown in to Mumbai today (26^th February) for last rites.
