Varnell leads Bay 101 Main Event; Anshul Kulshrestha in final 10

With the whole coronavirus scare taking place at the moment, not many Indian players are travelling much for live poker across the globe, but we did manage to spot one not too long ago. We’re talking about India’s Anshul Kulshrestha who has done well to progress to Day 3 of the Bay 101 Shooting Star $5,200 NLHE Main Event.

A total of 290 entries registered to the tournament and 106 returned on Day 2. As the levels increased and play tightened, we had a number of eliminations, eventually boiling down to the final 10 players that bagged and tagged, set to resume on Day 3 tomorrow. Leading the pack is WSOP bracelet winner Craig Varnell, who has over $2 million in live poker earnings.

Another very well-known name in the mix is US pro Anthony Zinno who has multiple WPT titles to his name along with $10 million in live earnings. GPI Female Player of the Year Kristen Bicknell is also in the mix while our Indian player Kulshrestha is currently 5th in chips among the final 10 players. Indian origin player Navin Mohan is also a part of the action.

37 players were guaranteed a min-cash of $9,040 in this tournament and quite a few other known names cashed including Mike Matusow (15th) and Darren Elias (11th). It’s been a great run by our Indian contender to stay alive among some of these top poker names and when he returns on Day 3, he’ll be playing for a minimum prize of $24,860 (~INR 18.36 Lakh) which goes out to 10th place.

Current top 10 chip counts:

  1. Craig Varnell – 2,700,000
  2. Kristen Bicknell – 2,110,000
  3. Navin Mohan – 1,860,000
  4. Tyler Patterson – 1,389,000
  5. Anshul Kulshrestha – 1,105,000
  6. Michael Tureniec – 900,000
  7. John Andress – 855,000
  8. Anthony Zinno – 330,000
  9. Anthony Spinella – 260,000
  10. Lexy Gavin – 160,000

There’s plenty to play for for everyone at the Bay 101 Casino at San Jose in California, and all of them will be eyeing the top prize of $300,650 when they return in a few hours from now. Stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for all further updates.
