Tolin Mathew K slays Spartan’s LBS Main Event

The LBS or the Little Big Series is a tournament series hosted by The Spartan Poker, which sees a lot of budding and novice poker players participating due to its very low buy-ins. LBS is a frequent series with the latest one comprising of 18 events in all, including the Main Event of the series. Low buy-in tournaments like these are necessary for players with potential but not enough bankroll to get them going. Tournaments like these give an initial boost for new players to increase their bankroll which they can use for other big tournaments in the future.

Last month’s LBS Main Event winner was Prem Bhee, who took home INR 2,50,000 in prize money. The latest LBS, started on Nov. 15 and got over on Nov. 18, with total of 6 events being hosted on the last day. The last day also saw the Main Event of the series take place, which attracted a total of 771 entries and had INR 10,00,000 GTD prize pool. Top 60 players in the Main Event were given prizes. Tolin Mathew K, who goes by the name of deuces came in first at this event, taking home INR 2,60,000 in total prize money. Tolin beat ‘puppetpoker’ in the heads-up, making the latter the runner-up winner of INR 1,60,000.

The final hand played between the two was played at Level 51, blinds at 50,000/100,000, ante 12,500. With almost 4:1 chip lead, Tolin posted the small blind, and his opponent followed with the BB. He called his 50,000 with Qs Qh, and puppetpoker shoved his entire stack of 1,885,023 with his As 3c, and a call by deuces followed later. The flop came to Ts 2h 4c rainbow, not hitting at all for puppetpoker. Even the turn and the river of Th and 9c respectively didn’t make it for puppetpoker and Tolin masterfully took home the entire pot of 3,995,046 with his pocket Queens after a five-and-a-half-hour long grind.

GutshotMagazine got in touch with the LBS Main Event champion, Tolin Mathew K for his reaction. He was pretty delighted with his victory and said, “I had taken 2 entries to the tournament, my initial buy-in gave me good run till I was card dead and then did a re-entry where I had only 10 BB, but this time the cards were in my favour and most flips favoured me. I got a few good double ups to reach a decent stack to rest till the money bubble. Heads-up was not that hard as he was playing way too loose with a 4:1 lead. This is my biggest win on The Spartan Poker to date and it feels really great.

Tolin was introduced to poker back in 2003 in Canada, where he played up until 2011. Talking about his career, he said, “After coming back to India I stopped for a bit and then started poker once I was given an opportunity with Kings and Queens poker club as Operations Manager. A big thanks to Suresh Sir for helping me grow better with the game live and online. I plan to save it up and pay off my credit cards.”
