Team Velocity Gaming Nails The Esports Club Gauntlet Season 1

The Esports Club’s (TEC) Gauntlet Season 1 finally came to end on Sunday. The two-month long tournament ended with Team Velocity Gaming being crowned as champions.

TEC’s Gauntlet Season 1 was a Valorant tournament that started on May 28th, 2021. The final match held on Sunday, was played between Velocity Gaming and Global esports. Velocity Gaming defeated Global esports by 3-2 to win the title.

The tournament took place in three stages. It started with 256 teams battling it out in the open qualifiers. In the second round 16 teams qualified and were divided into four groups of four teams each. The top four teams from the four groups proceeded to the main event round.

The main event began on July 24th, 2021, wherein eight teams fought to make it to the finals. During the earlier round, Global esports had defeated Velocity Gaming and sent the latter to the lower bracket. However, Velocity Gaming rose up and went on to defeat Global esports in the finals. 

The final match was a best of five game which featured five Valorant maps namely, Bind, Icebox, Breeze, Ascent and Split. It was a tough match after the scores leveled 2-2 post the fourth map. Velocity Gaming won the tie-breaker Split map to win the match 3-2.

Here’s the scorecard of the five maps:

BIND: Global esports won map Bind even though Velocity Gaming was the one to pick the map. Fragger SK Rossi with his 29 kills helped Global esports lead with a score of 13-8.

Icebox: The Icebox map was won by Velocity Gaming with a 13-6 lead. The top fragger at the Icebox map was SK Rossi again with18 kills.

Breeze: Velocity Gaming won the Breeze map too with a score of 13-11. The top fraggers here were SK Rossi, MW1 and Hellf with 24 kills each.

Ascent: Global esports leveled the scores by winning map Ascent with a  13-10 lead. SK Rossi continued his top fragger streak with 30 kills in the Ascent map.

Split: The final Split map was a tie-breaker. Velocity Gaming beat Global esports 13-11. The top fragger in this map was Velocity’s Amaterasu with 24 kills.

At the end of the five maps, MW1 was the top fragger for Velocity with a total of 95 kills in all 5 maps. However the top fragger of the match was SK Rossi with a total 116 kills across five maps.

TEC Gauntlet is a four season series that will continue until February 2022. AMD Ryzen and WD Black are the official sponsors of TEC Gauntlet.
